When creating a password, for an account or a file, you should never use something obvious, like names or birth dates. In certain cases, you can't create an online account if your password doesn't contain at least one number or special character or you may be notified that your password is too weak. If you want to make sure that no one will guess your passwords, then you should definitely try RandPass. This lightweight application is capable of generating long and complex passwords instantly. It uses random characters, which can be lower or upper case letters, numbers, double digit probabilities or custom characters.

RandPass is free for non-commercial use. You can use it on Windows 2000, XP, Vista, Win 7 or Win 8 and you don't have to go through an installation process. All you have to do is extract its executable from an archive and run it.

The application's compact user interface displays a few options for creating one or more passwords, setting their length and for including certain character types. You may create any number of passwords and make them as long as you want. Besides selecting one or more character types, to include them in the passwords, you can also choose a format for your passwords, if you wish to use them as serial numbers. When your selections are complete, you only need to click a button to create the passwords.

Passwords are generated instantly, unless you decide to create thousands of passwords, with just as many characters, which takes a few seconds. A series of options, located in the Actions menu, allow you to check for duplicate passwords, convert all passwords to upper, lower or random case and show the used characters. Finally, you can save all passwords in a plain text file, using different encoding methods, like ANSI, Unicode or others.

Pros

The application can generate numerous passwords in just a few seconds. Passwords can be composed of hundreds or thousands of upper and lower case letters, numbers and special characters.

Cons

There are no obvious drawbacks to mention. If you generate your passwords with RandPass, no web service on the Internet will ever tell you that your password is too weak.
